I will be crying plenty this summer

Onions make me cry every time I cut them. If you have ever walked in on me while chopping onions, you might see me with goggles on, a candle burning next to me, a towel to cover my nose and mouth, or just kleenex shoved up my nose. Pathetic.

The reason for so much crying this summer is this:

It might not look like much. But if you look closely, you will see something in the top left corner...here is a closer picture for your convenience.

What you are seeing are 45 little onions growing. We will see how many make it through the summer and into my kitchen. Also, you cant see it in the picture, but just above it, we have 20 garlic bulbs planted.

We are really excited about our new garden. We built this garden last summer with little time to plant anything. Other things we anticipate to plant are tomatoes, zucchini, squash and herbs that will be in separate locations.

My friend Michelle found a way to help with the crying while chopping dilemma. She takes a non-lit matchstick and bites it between her teeth while cutting the onion. I am sure this will still look silly, but might be the easiest way.

My little ones are celebrating today because it's raining. They are enjoying their first nutrients.
